MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) dismantled a total of 263 advertisements that had been put up illegally around the city during the operations carried out between Oct 1 and 20 this year.

This was stated by Miri Mayor Adam Yii when chairing the council’s Eighth Ordinary Meeting here yesterday.

He said the unlicensed advertising materials from various advertisers, including money lenders, were dismantled and seized as they had violated the Local Authorities (Advertisement) By-Laws 2012.

“I appeal for cooperation from the public and advertising companies to comply with the conditions of installation or display of advertising materials.

“It is important to comply with the by-laws in the effort to create a clean and pleasant living environment for residents of Miri,” he said, reminding those wishing to put up advertisements to apply for a permit at the Sarawak government service counter in Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Miri.

On dengue cases in Miri, Yii said the number reported in the city had increased from 22 in August to 33 in September. As such, he called upon residents to ensure that their housing areas were free from potential breeding places for Aedes mosquitoes.

“Make sure empty cans, plastic waste and other types of rubbish are properly cleared. Even though there’s no sign of an outbreak, it is always good to stay vigilant and alert.”

Yii also said despite no new rabies cases being reported here, the people here – dog owners in particular – must not let their guard down and should continue to work with MCC to ensure that their pets would receive vaccination and also licence tags.
