MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) together with National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), welfare department and police conducted an integrated operation against the homeless here yesterday.

Some 40 personnel took part in the operation which covered Taman Bunga and the open space under Pujut Flyover.

According to a press statement issued by MCC, the operation was conducted after the council received several complaints from the public that many homeless people were treating the areas as their home.

The statement noted that some of the homeless were suspected drug addicts.

During the operation, three homeless persons were detained – two at the flyover area and the other at the Taman Bunga area for further investigation by AADK.

The city council also seized their belongings under the Sanitary by-law 1999.
