Miri mayor Adam Yii said the action was taken after an inspection visit yesterday morning in response to complaints from the public. “MCC has directed the owners to clear and clean their respective premises within 14 days from the date of the notice. “Failure to comply within the stipulated period will result in enforcement action, which may include the issuance of compounds or legal proceedings under the relevant council by-laws,” he told The Borneo Post. The affected properties are located at Jalan Pujut 4A, Piasau Utara 3C, Jalan Piasau Utara 1, Tudan Phase 1, and Lakeshore Villa off Jalan Sukma, Senadin.

MIRI (Oct 17): The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has deployed 308 enforcement and price monitoring officers across Sarawak to ensure supply availability and price compliance during the Deepavali festive season. The initiative enforces the seven-day Deepavali Maximum Price Control Scheme 2025, which commenced today and covers nine essential items. The campaign in Miri was launched by Miri mayor and Pujut assemblyman, Adam Yii. Yii was joined by KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin, who led a team on an inspection walkabout at Emart Riam Shopping Mall. In a statement, KPDN Sarawak emphasised its commitment to a safe and ethical business environment. “The Sarawak KPDN will increase the presence of enforcement officers at consumer-focused locations to create a safe and ethical business and shopping environment,” the ministry said. The campaign will see inspections extended to public markets, farmers’ markets, wet markets, and shopping centres selling festive goods. The ministry also disclosed its enforcement performance from Jan 1 to Oct 12, this year. During this period, KPDN enforcement officers in Sarawak conducted 112,404 premises inspections, resulting in seizures worth RM 13,130,292 and compound fines totalling RM 398,000. A significant portion of these actions were under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, with 608 cases recorded. These specific offences led to a seizure value of RM2,596.60 and compounds amounting to RM130,300.00. The main offences identified include failure to display price tags on goods, violating Section 2(1) of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Order 2011; profiteering, under Section 14(1) of the Act; and other violations of the stipulated provisions under the Act. KPDN Sarawak reminds all traders to comply with the set maximum prices and to use the distinctive pink price tags for controlled goods. The ministry warned that any trader found committing an offence will face strict action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, including penalties and compounds.

It is in line with our aspiration to make Miri not only a tourism city but also a hub for various sporting events that can attract participants from within and outside the country,” he told TVS during the event at the Miri Golf Club (KGM) today. This year’s event recorded 119 participants, including Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, and a delegation of counterparts from Brunei. Manakala applikasi Smart Truck (Trak Pintar), jelasnya, membolehkan orang ramai dalam zon kutipan tertentu mengetahui jadual kutipan sampah di kawasan mereka.  Selain itu, orang ramai akan dapat melihat anggaran masa ketibaan lori sampah di kawasan mereka. Pemberitahuan juga akan dihantar kepada pengguna semasa hari pengumpulan. Kamera papan pemuka dipasang di dalam lori bagi memantau penempatan tong sampah oleh penduduk semasa aktiviti mengutip sampah. Pergerakan trak akan direkodkan. Tarikh kutipan kemudiannya akan digunakan untuk merancang kekerapan dan kawasan kutipan sisa yang dioptimumkan. Prestasi kontraktor kutipan sisa akan dinilai dengan tepat juga, melalui aplikasi. Manakala di bawah inisiatif Safe City & Safe Park, Yii berkata, sebanyak 147 unit kamera litar tertutup (CCTV) pintar dan 27 unit butang panik SOS telah dipasang di beberapa taman awam bagi meningkatkan keselamatan awam dan tindak balas kecemasan. Taman-taman tersebut ialah Taman Awam Miri, Kipas Bandar Miri, Taman Bulatan dan Wireless Walk. Rakaman CCTV dan butang panik SOS dipantau oleh Pusat Arahan Bandar Pintar Miri (MSCCC) di bawah majlis itu. Bagi e-Local Authority 2 (eLA2), tambahnya, ia membantu memperkemaskan penyampaian perkhidmatan awam dan menambah baik pemprosesan perniagaan majlis tempatan dengan menggunakan mekanisme e-dagang dan e-pembayaran untuk orang ramai membayar bil taksiran, caj tempat letak kereta, yuran lesen dan caj lain yang dikenakan oleh pihak majlis ada perkhidmatan dalam talian seperti e-booking (untuk menempah kemudahan majlis), e-submission (untuk menghantar pelan bangunan) dan lain-lain. This News from Borneo Post Online in English   MIRI (Sept 30): The Miri Public Park upgrading project should include a closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system under the Miri City Council (MCC), said Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. The Transport Minister said a CCTV system would help visitors and act as a deterrent against vandalism of public facilities. On the upgrading involving the rock cliff and forest park, Lee said the work was nearly done. “The project is 96.8 per cent completed and I have instructed the council to further improve the drainage and improve the uneven path, and beautify the landscape around the toilet facilities,” he said. Lee called the park a unique tourist attraction with a suspension bridge as well as hillside recreational facilities overlooking the city and South China Sea. “This is also popular among those who love to make use of these facilities, climbing up and down the hills and enjoying the view,” he said. “I call upon the public to help look after these public facilities here as we do not want them to be vandalised.” Costing RM1.5 million, the upgrading project was approved by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and implemented by MCC. Covering an area of 11.03 acres, it included the construction of a main entrance road, rest stops, public toilets, a pavilion, two jogging tracks, and a geological pathway.

Lee emphasised that empowering young people as environmental champions is crucial – not just through clean-up drives, but also via education, volunteerism, and innovation. “Environmental awareness must be integrated into our education system, urban planning and waste management policies. Our greatest asset in this campaign is public awareness and civic responsibility,” he said when officiating at the Zero Litter Campaign at Miri City Hall yesterday, in conjunction with Hari Cuci Malaysia and World Clean Up Day 2025. Highlighting the importance of sustainable habits, Lee added that instilling these values in schools and civic education will help future generations take ownership of Sarawak’s natural environment.
