MIRI : Miri City Council (MCC) will launch a special edition of its tourism handbook after Chinese New Year.

Chairman of the MCC Tourism Development Committee councillor Ernest Goh said the tourism handbook "Miri Uniquely Borneo" is a collaborative project with Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) in conjunction with MCC's tourism campaign for Visit Miri Year (VMY).

"The initial print of 5,000 copies will be distributed and placed at several strategic locations such as Visitors Information Centre (VIC) Miri, Miri Airport, travel agencies offices and hotels throughout the city," said Goh.

The 39-page booklet is divided into three sections - a brief introduction and information on places of interest in the city, usefull local contact numbers for travel guidance and a contest for visitors.

"The contest is a hot-spots stamp collection with the information on the contest to be found on the last two pages. Visitors will have to go to eight places of interest stated in the booklet to collect stamps," he added.

He said that as it may be difficult for the council to station personnel at the contest hot spot areas, the council allows visitors to take photos at the locations for the contest and chops would then be provided.

A mystery souvenir will be given to the visitors who visited the eight hot spot areas, collected the stamps and submit their entries by hand to the VIC Miri.
